Francis is represented walking. His step does not simply cross a geographical space, but a surface on which two different maps coexist: the plan of Umbria and the drawing of a printed circuit.

The territory thus takes on a new form. Roads become connections, routes recall the circuits through which information, energy and relations flow. The image suggests that the landscape is not only a physical space, but a living system of links between people, places, memory and knowledge.

Onto this scene is grafted the reference to Arnaldo Pomodoro’s Colonna del Viaggiatore, placed at the entrance to the city of Spoleto. Pomodoro’s work becomes the symbol of the journey as an experience of search and of transformation. To cross a place also means to let oneself be transformed by the encounter with it.

From this perspective Francis takes on the role of a threshold. He does not belong exclusively to his own time, but continues to put different languages, cultures and generations in communication. His journey crosses history without interruption, generating new possibilities of relation.

The encounter between the geography of Umbria and the electronic circuit also introduces a reflection on the contemporary world. Digital networks today constitute a new form of territory, capable of bringing people and knowledge closer but also of redefining the way we inhabit the world.

THEOPHANIA does not set the natural landscape against technology. The work suggests rather that every network acquires value when it remains at the service of human relation. Francis’s journey thus continues to question the present as well: to cross a territory means to build bonds, to safeguard memory and to open new possibilities of encounter.

The threshold is therefore not a boundary, but a space of passage. It is the place in which the journey becomes knowledge and knowledge generates new relations.
