Francis moves through a universe in which life, matter and cosmos are interwoven with the mechanism of a clock. His figure seems to dissolve and recompose itself, while time becomes the true protagonist of the work. Between references to science and to contemporary art, THEOPHANIA invites reflection on the relationship between transformation, order and origin, suggesting that time may be a dimension of human experience rather than an absolute principle.

In depth
In this panel Francis appears immersed in a reality in which matter seems to be continuously transforming. His figure breaks apart and recomposes itself among the gears of a clock, while biological and cosmic elements coexist in the same visual space.
The artist thus introduces a reflection on time. The clock does not simply measure the passing of the hours, but becomes the symbol of the human condition, which perceives the world through successions, changes and memory.
Alongside DNA, the references to the cosmos and the signs of life, a reference to the work of Alberto Burri appears once again. The fissures in the material open a space of passage, suggesting a reality in which every form is born, is transformed and returns to a wider dimension.
The presence of the formula of the Second Law of Thermodynamics introduces the theme of entropy: in every transformation order tends progressively to increase in complexity and every system evolves according to irreversible processes. Set within the work, this scientific law becomes an occasion for dialogue with a broader question about the meaning of time and of transformation.
The work proposes neither a scientific reading of spirituality nor a spiritualisation of science. Instead it places in relation different languages that question the same reality.
If time belongs to our experience of the world, what does it mean to speak of an origin? Can there be an origin that does not coincide with a “beginning” in the chronological sense of the term?
It is around this question that the entire composition is organised.
Francis neither dominates time nor remains its prisoner. His figure seems to pass through it, almost as if to suggest that the human search does not consist in stopping time, but in recognising what endures through every transformation.
From this perspective THEOPHANIA offers a reflection on the relationship between time, life and knowledge. The universe appears as a dynamic process in which matter, memory and consciousness are continually called to recompose themselves in an ever new order.
